“You can't beat the memories you've given me” crooned Dean Martin’s backing singers in 1955. And that was certainly the sentiment shared by many when discussing multigenerational holidays on our Facebook page.
In truth, it’s no surprise; especially given that in our recent survey of over 4,000 Brits1, 60% of those that go on multigenerational holidays said they’re the trips they look forward to the most.
So when we invited our followers to share their stories of special family getaways with multiple generations of adults, the response was nothing short of heart-warming. Here are some of the highlights.
Valerie Seal shared her memories of Mablethorpe beach chalets – a classic coastal destination that her family have been visiting since the 1950s (pictured below).
Carrie Lou Talbot-Ashby also showed her love of the seaside with a picture of her sons alongside her dad and sister in sunny Great Yarmouth (pictured below).
Three generations make for the perfect holiday – or so it seems, given the popularity of this particular attendee profile.
Elizabeth Bennett gave us a glimpse of her parents and little ones visiting Margaret River in West Australia (a trip saved for with Kent Reliance, no less - pictured above), while Kate Green enjoyed a jaunt to Belgium with her parents and children in tow (pictured below).
Part of the joy of multigenerational holiday groups is that they come in all shapes and sizes. For Denise Woodham, it meant meeting up with 11 siblings, nephews, nieces (and even great-nephews and nieces) in California, for her sister and brother-in-law’s diamond wedding anniversary (pictured below).
Our survey also highlighted that 40% of multigenerational holidaymakers choose to staycation instead of heading abroad. And with so many spectacular sights across the UK, we can’t blame them. Scott Findlay shared a picture of a trip to Wales with his parents – a perfect location to unwind (pictured below).
